Historical Background

The history of St. Joseph Mukasa Catholic Parish, Kahawa West, can be traced back to 1992 when the Servant of God, Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, created it from the old Queen of the apostles Parish and appointed Fr. Thomas Barbero as its first Parish Priest.

St. Joseph Mukasa Catholic Parish though full of years from 1992, remains youthful, vigorous and resilient. In a very real sense it is the product of its time, a creation of the place where it has flourished under the astute leadership of Consolata Missionaries through Frs In charge as follows-:

  • Fr Thomas Babero       - Founder
  • Fr Alex Moleschi
  • Fr Peter Sshemwezi
  • Fr Franco Cellana
  • Fr James G Munene
  • Fr John Muragu- Current Parish Priest

and the examples of sacrifice, courage and faithfulness set by its followers who have grown from about 100 in 1992 to over 7,000 Christians adults today.
St. Joseph's Mukasa Parish history embraces four distinct outstations-

    • St Joseph Mukasa Catholic Church –Parish Office
    • Consolata Catholic Church Kahawa Farmers
    • St Peter and Paul Catholic Church Marengeta
    • St Francis of Asisi Catholic Church Soweto.
